A drop shadow is a visual effect used in computer graphics and video production that provides the illusion that an object is raised above a background. It can be used to simulate the effect of a light source generating a shadow beneath the object in question. Depending on the results required, the shadow can be sharper or more subtle and can be offset in a number of directions to different degrees.
